How do we get to Bloomsbury Farm?
Please see our How to Fiind Us page for complete directions.
Accessibility:
Bloomsbury Farm is handicapped accessible. The corn maze, and most farm attractions, however, are on unpaved farm ground. Wheel chairs, strollers and wagons can be brought on premises and are able to complete the corn maze, but the ground (like any farm) can be bumpy, and sometimes even muddy, in spots. Please use your own discretion.
Restrooms:
Bloomsbury Farm has permanent, handicapped accessible restrooms, with diaper-changing stations in both the men’s and women’s restrooms.
Payment:
Bloomsbury Farm admission price depends on the day of your visit. See our Date/Time page for detailed information. We accepts cash, debit cards, credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, and Discover) and checks. Our cash registers, however, are not equipped to accept chickens, corn, or your children as payment. Tickets may be purchased in advance by contacting Karen@BloomsburyFarm.com.
Pets:
Bloomsbury Farm loves animals. Unfortunately, due to insurance restrictions, we do not allow pets.
Weather:
For everyone's safety, extreme unforeseen weather can force us to close at any time. Please call ahead if you plan to visit on a rainy/stormy day to see if we will be open. No weather-related refunds are offered; depending on the situation, please check at the Ticket Book to see if return vouchers will be provided.
Attire:
Because we operate in September and October, we recommend being prepared for warm or cool weather. Remember, this is Iowa and the weather changes constantly. We recommend wearing layers and also suggest closed-toe shoes or sneakers. Remember that you will be in a farm atmosphere and should dress appropriately for the best experience. Luckily our parking area is close to the farm so keeping extra items nearby is easy.
Busy Times:
Keep in mind that weekends are our busiest times, especially after dark. If you are looking for a smaller crowd, you may want to plan your arrival on weekdays afternoons or Saturday mornings.
What activities are included in the admission price to Bloomsbury Farm?
Admission to Bloomsbury Farm includes all activities on the Farm except the Jumping Pillow and Dry Creek Mining. Of course, all food and items purchased from the Sugar Shack Sweets & Treats are separate. Farm activities include: Hayrack Rides, Barnyard Buddies Petting Zoo, Tire Maze, Corn Maze, Kid’s Corn Maze, Learning Barn, Western Town, Duck Races, Goat Walk, Corn Box, Barrel Train, Straw Jump, trips to the area's largest Pumpkin Patch, and many more family fun activities!
What activities are NOT included in the admission price?
The Jumping Pillow is $2 extra per person (kids or adults), for a full day of jumping fun! This year's newest attractionis Dry Creek Mining. For $5 individuals receive a 2 lb. bag of Pay Dirt, which they dump in the sieves and mine in the running water to find gems, fossils, or arrowheads. All treasures are the property of the miner and are not charged additional fees. As indicated above, all food items purchased in the picnic area and all items purchased from the Sugar Shack Sweets & Treats are not included in the admission price.
Exactly how big is "The Area's Largest Pumpkin Patch?"
Our Pumpkin Patch is 15 acres of pumpkins of all sizes. We'll take you out to the patch and let you pick your own or stop by the Sugar Shack Sweets & Treats to choose from our pre-picked selection. If you want to send a gift from our Pumpkin Patch to those less fortunate people who live in parts of the country that don't support the growth of pumpkins, check with us to see how we can help.
How much do the pumpkins cost?
Since the size of the pumpkins vary (it is Mother Nature who controls this area), pumpkins are sold by the pound.
Is Bloomsbury Farm open during the summer?
During the summer, Bloomsbury Farm is open by appointment only. We are a great facility for hosting birthday parties, anniversary parties, weddings and receptions, and more during the summer. We also offer School Tours during the spring and summer for daycares providers and elementary schools.
Can groups bring their own food?
Although we do sell lots of yummy food on site, Bloomsbury Farm allows visitors to bring their own food. Due to restrictions, we require that food remain in the picnic area. Luckily our parking area is close to the farm so keeping a cooker or extra items nearby is easy. Additionally, we do have private barns that can be rented for groups or parties, for which we cater. Check out our Group Events page for more details.
Isn't Bloomsbury Farm just for kids?
Absolutely not! One of the greatest things about Bloomsbury Farm is the fact that it offers activities that guests of all ages can enjoy. From babies, all the way up to grandma and grandpa, our goal is to make sure everyone in your group leaves with memories to cherish. Check out the testimonials from all age groups!
How big is the Corn Maze?
The Corn Maze is cut into 10 acres of corn. It contains over 2 miles of twisting and turning paths to challenge folks of all ages. We actually have a smaller "Kids Corn Maze." See below for further information. To see current and/or past Corn Maze designs, click here.
How long does it take to get through the Corn Maze?
It all depends on many wrong turns you take. The average person will finish the Corn Maze within one hour. Some people have taken a lot longer and a few a bit quicker.
Could I really get lost in the Corn Maze?
We hope so! It’s designed to be that way. While everyone does get lost to different degrees, we have designed the maze to be an interactive activity that makes a trip inside the maze more than just a walk through some corn. At various points throughout the maze, there will be signs offering you ways to get clues as to which way to turn. Rest assured, we haven't had to call in the National Guard, yet!
Is there a smaller maze than 10 acres?
Yes, the
Kid’s Maze (kids of all sizes) is 2 acres of corn and should only take about 15 minutes to navigate. P.S. Adults are allowed in the Kid's Maze!
How do you make the mazes?
We plant the whole field in the spring and then cut out the design when the corn plants are still fairly short. The design is created on a computer and then transferred into the cornfield. This subject was actually discussed by Dave in his "What's Happening on the Farm" blog. For those of you who missed it, click here.
Can I eat the corn?
While we actually grow the corn here on the farm, you could eat it; but it wouldn't taste very good. The variety of corn that we grow for the mazes is field corn produced especially for cattle. Learn more about the corn we grow by clicking here!
